The Human Inquiry

You may already understand a great deal about yourself. The question is whether that understanding has changed what you notice, how you respond, and what feels possible.

A 10-week live experiential inquiry into yourself, your relationships and human behaviour.

Some Things Do Not Change Because We

Understand Them Intellectually

You can know where your patterns came from. You can understand trauma, attachment, addiction, nervous system responses, relationships and behaviour. You can explain yourself extremely well.

And still find yourself repeating the same reactions, getting caught in familiar relationships or returning to behaviours you thought you understood.

At some point, knowing more is not enough, there is another kind of understanding.

The kind that changes what you actually see.

That is what we will explore together over ten weeks.

This Is Not Ten Weeks Of Me Telling

You What To Think

The human inquiry is a live, participatory process.

We will work through inquiry, experiential exercises, conversation, paired exploration and what actually emerges in the room.

You will not be asked to adopt an Infinite Recovery model. I am not interested in replacing one set of beliefs with another. The work is about discovering what you can see for yourself.

Information can give you another explanation. Seeing something differently can change the way you experience it.

Who is This For?

You do not need to fit into one particular category. You may be exploring your own patterns, addiction, relationships or emotional life.

You may love someone who is struggling and want to understand what is happening without losing yourself in their struggle.

You may work professionally with people and have reached the limits of what models and explanations alone can offer. Or you may simply sense that you understand a great deal intellectually while something important remains unchanged.

Different lives. Different reasons for coming.

The work begins in the same place: With the human being.

The 10 Week Journey

SEEING WHAT YOU USUALLY CANNOT SEE

We begin with perception. How quickly do we move from what is actually happening to what we think it means? Through live exercises and inquiry, we will begin noticing how experience, belief and expectation shape what appears obvious to us.

WHY BEHAVIOUR MAKES SENSE

Instead of beginning with what is wrong with a behaviour, we ask what it may be doing.

Addiction, avoidance, anger, control, pleasing, withdrawal and other patterns can look very different when their function becomes visible.

WHAT THOUGHT ADDS TO EXPERIENCE

Something happens. Then thought tells us what it means.

We will explore sensation, interpretation and meaning, and begin noticing where experience ends and the story about the experience begins.

THE SELF YOU LEARNED TO BECOME

How much of what you call yourself was learned?

We will explore identity, adaptation and the conclusions we form through experience.

Rather than replacing old identities with better ones, we will look at how they came to feel true.

WHAT ARE YOU PROTECTING?

Patterns often persist because they are doing something important. What does the behaviour prevent? What does it provide? What becomes exposed without it? This is where behaviour can begin revealing its intelligence.

MEETING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING

How often are we meeting another person, and how often are we meeting our interpretation of them?

We will explore listening, assumption and relationship, and what changes when we become less certain about what we think we already know.

WHY UNDERSTANDING IS NOT ENOUGH

Many people can explain exactly why they behave as they do and continue doing it.

This week explores the difference between knowing something intellectually and actually seeing something differently.

STAYING WITH YOURSELF

What happens when discomfort appears? Do you reach for relief, shut down, become reactive or move entirely into another person? We will explore what it means to remain with your own experience without making that another technique to perform correctly.

FREEDOM AND WHAT BECOMES POSSIBLE

Freedom does not mean never struggling. It means becoming less organised by automatic repetition. We will explore flexibility, choice and what becomes possible when an old response no longer feels like the only response available.

WHAT DO YOU SEE NOW?

We return to where we began. What looks different? What feels less certain? What have you seen about yourself, another person or human behaviour that you cannot completely unsee? The final session gives us space to bring the journey together and recognise what has actually changed.

How it Process Works

  • We meet live once a week for ten weeks.

  • Each session is 90 minutes.

  • The group is limited to 12 people so everyone has the opportunity to participate.

  • Sessions may include live inquiry, experiential exercises, paired or small-group exploration, group conversation and direct work with what participants bring into the room.

  • You will never be required to disclose something you do not want to share.

  • You will be expected to participate.

  • This is an experiential process, not ten weeks of passive watching.

Everyone Enters

As a Participant

  • This is not professional training and it is not therapy delivered to a group.

  • There is no qualification and no model you will be expected to adopt.

  • Professionals do not enter as experts on everybody else.

  • Loved ones do not come to learn how to fix someone.

  • People struggling themselves do not become examples for the room.

  • Everyone begins with their own experience.

  • That is an important part of the process.

This Will Not Suit Everyone

This is unlikely to be right for you if you want a step-by-step treatment protocol, professional certification or ten weeks of lectures. It will ask you to participate and to become curious about some of the things you currently believe about yourself, other people and human behaviour.

You do not need to agree with me.

You do need to be willing to look.

About Jason Shiers

Jason Shiers is the founder of The Infinite Recovery Project and author of The Infinite Recovery Project:

The Intelligence of Addiction.

His work grew from more than two decades within mental health and recovery, alongside his own long experience of recovery.

Over time, one question became increasingly important:

Why can people understand themselves so well and still remain caught in the same patterns?

His work now explores addiction, trauma, identity, perception and human behaviour without beginning from the assumption that something is fundamentally wrong with the person.

The question at the centre of his work is simple:

What becomes possible when we stop beginning with explanations and begin with the person?

A Small Group by Design

Maximum 12 people.

This is not creating an audience. I want enough different perspectives in the room to make the inquiry rich, while keeping enough space for everyone to actually become involved. Over ten weeks, the group itself becomes part of the exploration. You will encounter people who see differently from you. That is part of it.
